Rushden will host first Bio-LNG installation of Nordsol

Bio-LNG installation developer Nordsol is partnering with RenEco to develop the United Kingdom’s first bio-LNG production facility. The facility will be located near the town of Rushden, over a hundred kilometers north of London, and is expected to begin operation in the first quarter of 2024.

RenEco currently processes organic waste to produce biogas and electricity. With the new facility, they will be able to convert this into LNG (liquefied natural gas). The installation will have the capacity to produce 3.4 kilotons of bio-LNG per year. RenEco aims to convert the biogas into LNG for supply to the transportation sector, as it is currently primarily used for heat and electricity generation.

Nordsol has the ambition to build multiple bio-LNG installations in the United Kingdom and expects to double the capacity of the RenEco facility by 2025.
